The next episode of the Fox series “Glee” will feature Tamlyn Tomita as the mother of Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.).
Titled “Asian F,” the episode will air on Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 8 p.m. The title refers to a grade of A minus, which is as bad as an F to some Asian parents.
Conflict between Mike and his parents surfaces when he reveals that he doesn’t want to be a doctor or a lawyer. Keong Sim guest stars as Mike’s father.
In a promo posted on YouTube, Shum said he is pleased that this episode gives his character “more back story and some depth,” and also shows what dancing means to him.
Tomita, a familiar face at Japanese American community events in Los Angeles, had a recurring role as a coroner in “Law and Order: L.A.” and as Hiro Nakamura’s mother in “Heroes.” Her other recent credits include “Memphis Beat,” “Private Practice,” “CSI: Miami,” “Criminal Minds,” and “The Mentalist.”
Sim’s credits include the movie “The Last Airbender” and the TV shows “Ringer,” “The Protector,” “Southland,” and “The Forgotten.”
