GARDENA — The Gardena Pioneer Project will present a community education seminar featuring speakers on safety and consumer information on Sunday, Nov. 6, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Ken Nakaoka Center, 1700 W. 162nd St., Gardena.
John Roldan, outreach officer from the California Public Utilities Commission, will explain how to qualify for various utility discounts (water, electric, natural gas and telephone service), including discounts for medical equipment usage. He will also discuss telecommunication fraud (e.g., *72 scam and area code 809 scams), how to avoid telemarketers (the “Do Not Call List”), and when robo-calls are illegal.
Detective Luis Villanueva of the Gardena Police Department will discuss personal safety — how to protect yourself at home, when shopping, when exercising, etc.
