1/1 — New Year’s Day in Little Tokyo


Jan. 1 — The Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California is pleased to present the 13th

annual “2012 Oshogatsu: A Japanese New Year Celebration” throughout Little Tokyo on Sunday, Jan. 1. The purpose of this event is to celebrate the wonderful Japanese culture and traditions of the New Year as celebrated in Japan not only with the Japanese

community, however also with fellow Los Angelenos.

Everyone is welcome to participate!

Programs will be held at Weller Court shopping center and the Japanese Village Plaza shopping center.

The festivities will begin with the opening ceremony which will be held at Weller Court from 11:00

a.m. Throughout the day various programs and performances will also be held at Japanese Village Plaza.

The main stages at Weller Court shopping center and the Japanese Village Plaza will feature exciting performances which include Taiko Drums, Kagamibiraki (a traditional sake

barrel breaking ceremony), Lion Dances, Japanese Folk Songs and Dances, Japanese Calligraphy,

free Mochi (pounded rice cake) thrown from the stage by the 2011 Nisei Week Queen and her court

and the members of LA Kimono Club. LA Kimono Club also perform Kimono Fashion Show and announce the winner of the 2nd annual “Miss Kimono LA” and runner-up.

Origami (the art of paper folding) and kite making craft booths for children will also be available at Weller Court.
