Regional Celebrations of Congressional Gold Medal Planned


WASHINGTON — Several regional celebrations will be held across the country to commemorate the awarding of the Congressional Gold Medal to the Nisei units of World War II, announced Christine Sato-Yamazaki, chairperson of the National Veterans Network.

The 100th Infantry Battalion, 442nd Regimental Combat Team and Military Intelligence Service received the medal on Nov. 2 during a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol. The local events are for the benefit of those who were unable to attend.

The Congressional Gold Medal replica is now available through the U.S. Mint website, The replicas are $44.95 each, plus $8 for a presentation case.

The National Veterans Network is working on a DVD of the Congressional Gold Medal ceremony and celebratory events, and will make it available at a cost to be determined, Sato-Yamazaki said.
