The Japanese American Cultural and Community Center presents “Japanese Touch to Your Holiday Celebration” as part of its “On the Veranda” series on Sunday, Dec. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Get ready for the holiday season with mixed-media artist Karen Toda, who has experience teaching paper and textile works as well as interior decorating. She has explored and interpreted Japanese traditions in a contemporary way.
For this lecture, Toda will go over the traditions of Japanese decorations and symbols for Oshogatsu or New Year’s, and demonstrate how to make a nengajyo (New Year’s cards) and how to wrap holiday gifts using a furoshiki.
