A reception for Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry’s mayoral campaign was held Dec. 13 at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center.
Perry is a familiar face in Little Tokyo, which is part of her district, appearing at many Japan-related and Japanese American community events. She is now campaigning throughout the city as one of several candidates seeking to succeed Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in the March 2013 election.
“Tonight was a chance to spend some time with some long-time friends and people who are supportive of me,” she said. “We’re going to build momentum off of what we started tonight and reach out deeper, further, greater than I ever have before, and I’m really excited about it.”
About 75 people attended the fundraiser, including: back row (from left) Joel Friedman, Tom Iino, Doug Aihara; (second row) Michele Hirose, Linda Wah, Lisa Sugimoto, George Nakano, Dr. Paul Terasaki, Chris Naito, Rev. Mark Nakagawa; (first row) Chris Aihara, Tsutomu Maehara, Hisako Terasaki, Jan Perry, Frances Hashimoto, Bishop Noriaki Ito. (They are backing Perry as individuals and not as representatives of their respective organizations.)
