The Venice Japanese Community Center introduced its scholarship recipients and its Nisei Week Queen candidate on June 22 during its annual Summer Festival. Not pictured: Jason Kunisaki and Micah Tamura, who were unable to attend.Miss Western Los Angeles 2013 Stephanie “Steffi” Megumi Fukunaga was recently crowned by VJCC and West Los Angeles JACL. One of three daughters of Mickey and Christine Fukunaga, she just received her bachelor’s degree in biology from UC Riverside. She was joined by fellow Nisei Week candidates Megumi Yuhara (Japanese Restaurant Association of America), Laura Higashi (OC Nikkei Coordinating Council, Ashley Honma (Pasadena Japanese Cultural Institute), Jamie Teragawa (East San Gabriel Valley Japanese Community Center), and Lauren Iwata (Gardena Evening Optimist).
