One of the special guests at the event was Huizar’s third-grade teacher, Pauline Shirasu Griffith, who recalled signing up a young Huizar for Little League. “As a team, I would go to games and support him. I told him that he was going to go far,” she stated.
Born in Zacatecas, Mexico, Huizar has said that his educational journey began in 1972 at Euclid Avenue Elementary School in East L.A.
Huizar thanked supporters, vowing to continue his work for the Little Tokyo community. “All this work I do with a deep passion and care for what happens to Little Tokyo,” he said. “My focus is to continue to support economic development that also protects the history, so that Little Tokyo will be part of the downtown renaissance.”
