WASHINGTON — Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) issued the following statement on Friday:
“Today is the 25th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake. The lasting images of this 6.9-level earthquake include the collapsed section of the Bay Bridge, and Giants and A’s players at Candlestick who had been waiting to start Game 3 of the World Series.
“However, we must also remember the 63 people who died as a result of this devastating quake. If we are not prepared, the damage from earthquakes can be catastrophic.
“Yesterday was Earthquake Preparedness Day. Every family should create a plan in case of emergency, including keeping a disaster kit and establishing meeting points with loved ones. Though we may not know when the next ‘big one’ will strike, let’s make sure that we are never caught off guard. Learn how to prepare here: www.ready.gov.”
