MILL VALLEY — Buddhist Temple of Marin, 390 Miller Ave. in Mill Valley, will hold its Obon service and odori celebration on Sunday, July 19.

Obon is a traditional Buddhist celebration honoring the departed spirits of one’s ancestors. The one-hour service led by Rev. Kengu Kobata will begin at 2 p.m., followed by Obon Odori, a Japanese style of line dancing, which will last about an hour.

Afterwards, everyone will share a potluck meal together. Bring your favorite dish to share. All are welcome.

The last dance practice, led by temple member Chiz Shiro, will be held on Friday, July 17, at 7 p.m. Whether you are a person who has never heard of Obon dancing or you are an old pro who needs to shake out the cobwebs or perfect your moves, you’re invited.

Donations are welcome. For more information, call (415) 388-1173 or visit http://buddhisttempleofmarin.org.
