On May 17, the Manzanar Committee announced that their first annual Student Awards Program Reception will be held on Saturday, June 4, at Merit Park Recreation Hall, 58 Merit Park Dr. in Gardena.

The Student Awards Program recognizes recognize students who have demonstrated an understanding of the guiding principles of social justice, human rights and civil rights in today’s society, along with the accomplishments and insights the students have applied to their lives and community.

The community is urge to attend the reception to honor the 2016 winners of the program. A $25 donation includes admission and an entry in a fundraising raffle.

Sponsorships are also encouraged. Those interested in sponsoring the event can do so at the following levels (all sponsors will be listed by level in program booklet):

Platinum: $1,000 (10 reception seats and raffle tickets)

Gold: $500 (10 reception seats and raffle tickets)

Silver: $250 (five reception seats and raffle tickets)

Bronze: $100 (five reception seats and raffle tickets)

Proceeds from this event will help ensure that the Manzanar Committee Student Awards Program can continue to provide students with a vehicle to demonstrate their understanding of social justice.

Donations of prizes for the raffle are also needed.
