GARDENA — Join the JACL Greater Los Angeles chapter for a plate of curry and conversations on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 pm. at Merit Park Recreation Hall, 58 Merit Park Dr. (off 158th Street, near Pacific Square) in Gardena.
Come share stories of Japanese Americans young and old with high school English teacher and spoken-word poetry artist Kurt Ikeda as different generations learn about each other through a poetry-writing workshop. Come for the curry, stay for the stories and poetry. Open mic at the end of the program.
Ikeda, who describes himself as “your friendly neighborhood poetry teacher,” said he is humbled to serve on the JACL Pacific Southwest District board as secretary and National Education Committee representative. This GLA chapter board member, nominated to be co-president, is excited to find new ways of telling the Shin-Nikkei Japanese American narrative through creative writing and poetry.
