Kay Fukushima

Kay Fukushima
September 11, 1930 — January 7, 2021

Kay Fukushima, resident of Montebello, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021. He fought the battles that accompanied diabetes for 5 years, and showed his resilient strength to the end. He is now making his way to paradise after 90 years in this world.

Kay was born on September 11, 1930 in Gridley, Calif. He grew up with 5 siblings; Roy, Janet, Nancy, Danny, and Alan. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1950 and achieved the rank of Airman First Class. Shortly after, he moved to Los Angeles where he attended L.A. City College and studied mathematics. He had a successful career as a respected systems administrator.

He married his devoted wife, Ruth Fukushima, in 1961. They built their life together and created memories in Mid-town Los Angeles, Whittier, and Montebello. They proudly raised two children, Lisa and Lance, and later took joy in caring for their two granddaughters, Kristen and Kiana; all with their utmost love. On February 25, s2021, Kay and Ruth would have shared their 60th wedding anniversary.

In his retirement, he enjoyed bowling in the Nikkei Seniors League, playing various card games in Las Vegas, and organizing Nikkei Tours alongside Ruth. He was a very skilled bowler and competed in numerous local and out-of-town tournaments. Kay was reserved, but had an infectious smile and was truly a cheerful soul to be around for his closest family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Ruth Fukushima; children, Lisa Fukushima and Lance (daughter-in-law Shiho) Fukushima; grandchildren, Kristen Fukushima (Richard Hidajat) and Kiana Quan; siblings, Roy Fukushima, Danny Fukushima, and Alan Fukushima; and three dogs, Percy, Oliver, and Loki.

For those who remember him, we kindly ask to celebrate his life by Letting It Ride in Las Vegas (when it is safe). Due to Covid-19 restrictions no public services will be held.
