Funeral services for the late Mary Tsuruko Kinoshita, 95, Bakersfield-born Nisei and long-time resident of Monterey Park, who passed away peacefully on Nov. 27, 2016, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 1:00 p.m. at the Fukui Mortuary “Chapel in the Garden,” 707 E. Temple Street, Los Angeles, with Rimban William Briones of Hompa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple officiating.
As a young child her family returned to Hiroshima, Japan, where she continued her education. Following her marriage to Hajime (Harry) Kinoshita, she returned to the United States. During WWII they were interned at the Amache internment camp in Granada, Colo., where her eldest son, Gary, was born. Following the war, the family settled in Los Angeles, where her second son, Kenneth, was born and where she spent the remainder of her life.
She is predeceased by her husband Hajime (Harry) Kinoshita; sister Kimiye Matsumoto; and daughter-in-law Hisae Kinoshita. She is survived by her sons Gary Setsuo (Hisae) and Kenneth Eiji, and sister Hideko Takata of Japan; and also by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.
